The beautiful #castle of #Mespelbrunn was built from 1427 on by #knight Peter Echter of Mespelbrunn close to the unexploited forest around #Aschaffenburg in #Bavaria. Back then the forest was often used by bandits as a #hideout from their raids, and over the following generations the presence of the knight’s castle made the area safe again – with the castle ultimately turning into a dreamy location for tourists.

Castles in Germany 06 – Burg Reichenstein
Next one on the list is the #beautiful #Burg #Reichenstein (“rich stone”), overseeing the #Rhine #River valley with its lavish #wineyards. This #castle is part of the #UNESCO World Heritage effort – it was built around 1100 AD, though it’s still unclear by whom. All that is known about its history is that throughout the centuries it was housed and used to collect tolls from travelers and merchants passing through by various high ranking families until it was finally given to the #archbishop of Mainz.
Castles in Germany 02 – Burg Eltz
A slightly different angle to the beautiful #castle of #Burg #Eltz. This castle is one of the more popular places to see #medieval architecture in #Germany since it’s still in great shape after 800+ years, and it’s constantly being maintained and renovated by the princely family owning it to this day.
Castles in Germany 01 – Burg Eltz
Over the years I have taken tons of photos of beautiful #castles and #medieval towns all across #Germany that I want to share with you – kicking it off with one of my favorites: #Burg #Eltz. Hidden in the deep #forest of the #Eifel this castle from the 12th century remained unscathed and is still in an amazing condition today. Definitely a must-see that you need to add to your bucket list!
